Style Tips

Over the last 12 years I have come across some obvious "Style Tips" for Brides which I would like to share with you .....

The Importance of a Headdress:

After the initial proposal, the immediate thoughts are the dress and venue and getting the date firmly set in the diary! These are so important and it it so difficult to prioritise anything in the euphoria of the moment. Can I just say a few words at this point:
The photographs are what we look back on in years to come and what we see in the photographs are what we remember and what is important is that we always look at those photographs and feel special, timeless and elegant.
In the days of reportage photography, we don't actually see many full length photos of us at all. Many of the bride signing the register, chatting with guests, photos capturing every emotional moment but very few full length images. What we always see is what the bride is wearing in her hair and hopefully how beautiful it looks.

We never appear as naked as we do on our wedding day!

Wedding Dresses are so varied and beautiful; layers and layers of beautiful fabric, beading, ruching, strapless. Brides always sit with me worrying that they don't want to appear over accessorised or looking like a Christmas Tree. It is obviously my job to ensure that you leave my studio feeling suitably and elegantly adorned with wonderful jewels which you can't wait to wear on your wedding day. As much detailing as you may have on your wedding dress will probably vanish when you come to look at your photographs. Unless you have lace on bare flesh, other detailing is invariably on a light coloured satin/silk and the photographs will give the impression of plain fabric ivory fabric. Therefore, the jewellery does play a key part in the overall look of your finished result. Strapless dresses with hair up and small pearl earrings without a necklace seems quite enough and beautifully understated but photographs reveal that sometimes the dress doesn't even feature and one can risk the look of not wearing a dress at all! Necklaces however theatrical or understated can save the day!

Why wear a bracelet?

We either like bracelets or we don't but for the purpose of feeling comfortably adorned, bracelet's work beautifully. With reportage photography, our arms play a big part. Our engagement ring is on our right finger until after the ceremony when we switch it to our left and then we have a bare right arm which will be seen when signing the register, sipping champagne and hugging all our guests. It is so lovely to draw the eye to something beautiful just sitting there!

Something Old, Something New ..............

We offer the option to recycle old pearls and vintage jewels into your jewellery; maybe incorporating something of sentimental value which makes your jewellery even more precious. Maybe an old string of pearls can be recycled into a headdress or included into a brooch! The beautiful lustre of the old pearls and vintage jewels give your jewellery an air of inherited elegance.
